Great essay. I was delivering BBQ platters to a table, stumbled, and sent the four "mother loads" that was actually the name of the meal, flying into a 4-top. I don't know how I still had a job after that. I also got my nose pierced 2x! I feel like we are soul sisters! haha

Oh my gosh, the “motherload”, that is hilarious. Yes, it sounds like we are soul sisters!

I can't even imagine how cauterizing a bleeder on your hip could POSSIBLY burn your nose. Great story--maybe mostly because I grew up in the same era and area.(Wisconsin). The world, and the way we lived in it was different back then. I rebelled by getting a very small tattoo in a place few see it when I was in college.

Right?!? It makes no sense to me either. I’m way more stressed about the idea of trying to get it out than my nose somehow being burned during hip surgery, lol. I’m so happy you liked my story MaryBeth, thank you for reading!

You have courage. However, look up “triangle of death,” and you might see that infections in the area of the nose can lead to serious complications. Glad you survived. I do remember the Embers for some reason, having hung out in TC and at Interlochen back in the days. You survived that, as well.

Oh my goodness, I guess I really dodged a bullet! And that’s so cool that you know The Embers. When did you spend time in TC?

70’s and 80’s. Did a couple of my med school rotations in TC, have two cousins there so I still get there once in a while.

I was there in the 80’s too! We might have passed each other on the street:)

Very possible 😊❤️!
